Privacy policy
This page explains what personal information CB Lofts collects when you use this website or ask us for a loft boarding quote, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it in plain English.
1. Who we are
CB Lofts is the trading name of CBWCARPENTRY LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14674553) with its registered office at 6 Faircliff Way, Burwell, Cambridge CB25 0GD. VAT registration number GB454870861.
For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, CBWCARPENTRY LTD is the data controller of the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about it, contact us using the details in section 13.
2. What information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details when you request a quote, call, email or message us: your name, phone number, email address and postcode.
- Details about your loft and your home: the approximate area you would like boarded, whether the property is a new build, which ladder and extras you are interested in, and anything you tell us during a call, survey or message. Your postcode helps us check the property is in our coverage area and prepare for the survey.
- Photos of your loft if you choose to send them to us by WhatsApp or email.
- Correspondence: copies of the messages and emails we exchange, and notes of phone calls.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, screen size and the pages you visit on this site.
- Usage and advertising data collected by cookies and similar technologies, where you allow them, including which advert or search brought you here and whether you completed the quote form. See section 5.
You do not have to give us any information. Without your contact details we cannot call you with a quote or arrange a survey.
3. How we use your information and why we are allowed to
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each use of your personal information. These are ours.
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Review your requirements, call you back to arrange a free survey, carry out the survey, and prepare a written quote. | Taking steps at your request before entering into a contract. |
| Carry out the work you have booked, invoice you, deal with any guarantee or aftercare, and keep the records we are legally required to keep. | Performance of a contract; compliance with our legal obligations (for example tax and company law). |
| Follow up on an enquiry or quote that you have not yet decided on, by phone, email, text or WhatsApp. | Our legitimate interest in responding to the enquiry you made. You can ask us to stop at any time. |
| Understand how this website is used and improve it. | Our legitimate interest in running an effective website (analytics cookies are only set with your consent). |
| Measure whether our advertising works and show relevant adverts to people who have visited this site. | Your consent, given through your cookie choices. |
| Send you occasional news or offers by email. | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. See section 10. |
| Prevent fraud and misuse of this website, and protect our systems. | Our legitimate interest in keeping the website and our business secure. |
Where we rely on legitimate interests we have considered the impact on you and are satisfied that it is what you would reasonably expect when you ask a tradesperson for a quote. We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
4. Who we share your information with
We never sell your personal information. We share it only with the people and companies below, and only for the purposes set out in this policy.
- Our team. The directors and fitters who handle your enquiry, survey and installation.
- Our marketing agency, GLO (Generate Leads Online). GLO manages our advertising and this website and may see enquiries in order to check that the website and our campaigns are working. GLO acts on our instructions as a data processor.
- Service providers that host and run this website and our systems, for example Netlify (website hosting and form handling), HubSpot (customer relationship management), Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager) and Meta (advertising measurement). Each of these processes your information under a contract and only as needed to provide their service. Our email and telephone providers also carry the messages you send us.
- Professional advisers such as our accountants, insurers and solicitors, where necessary.
- Regulators, courts and law enforcement where we are required to by law.
- A buyer or successor if our business is sold or reorganised, in which case they would take on the obligations in this policy.
Reviews you choose to leave on Checkatrade, Trustpilot or Google are governed by those platforms' own privacy policies.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device. This website uses the following types.
| Type | What it does | Set by | Needs your consent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Remembers your progress through the quote form and protects the form from spam. Without these the site will not work properly. | CB Lofts, Netlify | No |
| Analytics | Tells us, in aggregate, how visitors use the site: which pages are viewed, how long people stay and where they came from. IP addresses are truncated. | Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) | Yes |
| Advertising | Lets Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) measure whether people who saw our adverts went on to request a quote, and show our adverts to people who have visited this site. | Google Ads, Meta Pixel | Yes |
We ask for your consent before setting analytics or advertising cookies, and you can withdraw it at any time through the cookie settings on this site or by deleting cookies in your browser. Most browsers also let you block cookies altogether, although the quote form may then not work as intended. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and manage Meta advertising preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings.
6. How long we keep your information
- Enquiries that do not become a job: up to 24 months from your last contact with us, so that we can honour any quote and answer follow-up questions. After that we delete or anonymise the details.
- Customers: for the length of our relationship and then for 6 years after the work is completed, because we need to keep records for tax and accounting law and to deal with any guarantee claim.
- Website analytics and advertising data: for the periods set by Google and Meta, currently a maximum of 26 months for Google Analytics, in aggregated form.
- Emails and messages: reviewed and deleted in line with the periods above.
If you ask us to delete your information sooner we will do so unless we have a legal reason to keep it (see section 9).
7. International transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom and that is where we handle your information. Some of the service providers listed in section 4 store data in, or provide support from, countries outside the UK, including the United States. Where that happens we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the provider's certification under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.
8. Keeping your information safe
This website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and the quote form submits over an encrypted connection. Access to enquiry and customer records is limited to the people who need it to do their job and is protected by passwords and, where available, two-factor authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office if a breach occurs that is likely to affect your rights.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase your information in certain circumstances, for example where we no longer need it.
- Restrict how we use your information while a query about it is resolved.
- Object to our use of your information where we rely on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
- Portability: receive the information you gave us in a machine-readable format where we process it by automated means on the basis of consent or contract.
- Withdraw consent at any time where consent is our lawful basis, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, email enquiries@cblofts.co.uk or write to the address in section 13. We do not charge a fee and will respond within one month, although we may need to confirm your identity first and can extend the deadline for complex requests.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113, or by post to Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
10. Marketing
Requesting a quote does not sign you up to a mailing list. We will contact you about your enquiry and, where you are a customer, about your installation and guarantee. We will only send you other news or offers by email if you have agreed to it, and every such email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by contacting us. We never pass your details to other companies for their marketing.
11. Children
Our services are for homeowners and landlords, and this website is not aimed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their details, please contact us and we will delete them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we change the tools we use. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and significant changes will be highlighted on this page. This policy applies to this quote-request website; our main website at cblofts.co.uk may carry its own notice.
